Selects, conducts and interprets appropriate audiological assessments in order to evaluate physiological functioning of the auditory system and ensure that the patient realizes and maintains maximum audiological functioning; makes appropriate recommendations/referral for follow-up based on assessment results; counsels patients and/or their families with respect to hearing loss and potential outcomes from (re)habilitate services; supervises junior Audiologists as assigned; actively collaborates with the health care/educational team to meet patient care, outcome and system improvement objectives; participates in training and research programs within the CSD Department.
Principle Duties:
1. Integral member of the healthcare team.
2. Evaluate diagnose (i.e degree of hearing loss versus medical diagnosis by a physician) and manage patients with hearing and/or balance disorders.
3. Determine the need for referral to other professionals respond to such requests.
4. Select testing methods and equipment required for each individual patient; interpret results of all assessments, relay information to physicians and interdisciplinary teams as necessary.
5. Provide detailed/comprehensive written reports where deemed necessary and in a timely manner, outlining all relevant case history information, results of all audiological assessments as well as impressions and/or recommendations.
6. Select, prescribe and fit appropriate hearing aid(s); conduct real-ear measurements and/or functional gain assessments to verify and validate fitting.
7. Recognize the special needs of culturally diverse populations by providing services that are free of potential biases.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Master Degree in Audiology (from a recognized audiology program that includes 1 yr clinical practicum as a pert of degree -2 years minimum experience required
Bachelor Degree in Audiology (from a recognized audiology program that includes 1 yr clinical practicum as a pert of degree - 4 years minimum experience required
