Major Functions: The primary role of the Underwriter is to work with the Account
Teams on assigned cases, providing financial analysis and utilizing modeling tools to
evaluate benefit programs and their impact on overall business objectives, including
the management and control of client risks and losses.
Basic Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform underwriting, financial, and risk analysis support for internal sales teams and their respective consulting clients;
2. Prepare plan design and financial analysis for existing and prospective customers by utilizing modeling tools and various reporting techniques;
3. Responsible for clients’ benefits marketing process, such as: data acquisition, request
for proposal (RFP) preparation, vendor question resolution, proposal review and
analysis, and client exhibit and presentation preparation;
4. Perform the analysis and negotiation of rates and plan options with insurers on behalf of clients to secure optimal, cost-competitive benefit plans;
5. Validate renewals and proposals for accuracy;
6. Provide the definition of clients’ employee contribution modeling and strategies;
7. Assist with the evaluation, determination and recommendation of alternative coverage,
pricing options, and plan design changes based on economic analysis of available plan elements related to client goals;
8. Perform various reporting for plan change evaluations, budget and reserve calculations, and other on-going reviews;
9. Participate in prospective client data analysis and presentations;
10. Participate in special underwriting projects as needed;
11. Maintain quality service standards and organization to assure timely service to Trion team;
12. Research and remain abreast of the dynamic, competitive insurance environment, new and complex insurance projects, appropriate underwriting techniques and constantly changing legislation that governs business.
General Responsibility:
- Manages Underwriting area and acts as expert in analyzing, identifying and calculating the rates for simple risk and difficult risk. Manages team that
- Underwrites new policies, renewals and amendments of standard and highly complex insurance contracts.
- Manages Underwriting area compliance requirements and all work queues. Works with client on underwriting issues, proposed changes and change directives.
- Provides direct agent support through escalations and call/chat overflow needs.
- Meets with clients to discuss their insurance policies, rules and interpretations and shares written outcomes and guidelines with staff.
- Presents weekly or monthly data, analyzes information and assesses trends assessments.
- Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
