JOB SUMMARY
Assists infection control manager in the promotion and application of infection control measures to prevent and/or control infections among patients and employees. Facilitates compliance with requirements of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organization (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Public Health.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervising and implement Infection Control policies and procedures through daily round in the assigned area.
2. Identifies patients with a communicable disease and prevents exposure to others as needed.
3. Responds according to infection control policy when a patient or employee is diagnosed as having a communicable disease
4. Communicates information and insures proper infection control measures are in place when indicated
5. Observes as needed the proper placement of pre/post operation patients to prevent exposure to another patient with a draining wound.
6. Follows all positive microbiology and serology reports for possible infection in patients and employees in accordance with the recommendation of the infection control policies and procedure.
7. Doing daily round and collection of needed data for surveillance from all departments including the laboratories.
8. Assists with the preparation of monthly report to infection control committee regarding health-care acquired infections; disseminates data to medical and nursing staff
9. Identifies risk or potential risk for exposure both to employee or another patient of communicable disease or spread of infection and takes appropriate action as needed
10. Notifies infection control chairman and infection control head nurse immediately when a problem is identified or questioned
11. Provides in-service education as required and/or requested by an individual or a department
12. Provides resource data to supervisors, department managers, medical staff, patient, and/or family members regarding infection control issues.
13. Responsible of proper cleaning and setup of isolation room and of the availability and accessibility of infection control materials in ward for all nurses and doctors.
14. Participate in preparing Infection Control Manuals, checklists and brochures.
15. Participates in updating policies in order to meet current standards and regulations of practice as needed
