JOB SUMMARY
To organizes and directs the work of Nursing Units and programs;coordinates staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided, and quality standards are met. Staffingconsists of Registered Nurses, Medical Clerks and other healthcare providers as needed. Act as a leader in improving nursing practice through analytical and evidence based nursing or best practice and research, and utilize a multidisciplinaryteam approach to care; to develop and maintain anenvironment that supports the professional nurse and staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains nursing operations and guidelines by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
2. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services, analyzingappropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities for improving services, clinical performance and patient outcomes.
3. Supervises and participates in the provision of general nursing care services and assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to nurse practice; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.
4. Is responsible for the nursing department’s operational excellence; ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
5. Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication.
6. Coordinate actively with other health care professionals to promote smooth transitions and reduce boundaries in caredelivery through the continuum of care.
7. Integrating and ensuring operational key objectives and strategies for ethical practice that promotes and support education, learning and research.
8. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
9. Responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources.
10. Ensures availability and operation of necessary medical/administrative equipmentfor patient care.
11. Responsible for operating within approved budget and achieving financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
12. Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends; anticipating needed supplies; approving requisitions and cost allocations.
13. Ensures proper labor relations and conditions of equal employment opportunity are maintainedby recruiting, selecting, orienting, , training and promotion nurses.
14. Manages human resources (HR) to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
15. Demonstrating strong critical thinking skills in making appropriate nursing decisions and judgments.
16. Participates in clinical conferences, workshops, seminars, and related forums. Prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and pro-actively address actual and potential problems, exceedingpatient and client expectations.
17. Leading others in ways to improve quality, efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness of management oforganization.
18. Maintaining high level interpersonal and communication skills with members of the multidisciplinary team, and serves as liaison between staff and other areas within the organization, and as an advisor to other disciplines.
19. Ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families.
