Main purpose of job
To direct and control the company’s research and development
function and commission research projects to ensure that the company
is at the forefront of industry developments and continually improves
products and services.
Main responsibilities
1. Direct and control the staff of the R&D department to ensure that
they carry out their responsibilities effectively and that there is
a safe and healthy work environment.
2. Contribute to the development of the company’s corporate
strategy.
3. Direct and control research projects to ensure that they deliver
timely and cost-effective results which enhance the effectiveness
of the company and its products.
4. Develop and maintain contacts with relevant organizations in
the industry for the exchange of ideas and information.
5. Provide scientific guidance and advice to the Board to enable
them to decide priorities and make cost-effective decisions.
6. Commission research as necessary and monitor contract per-
formance.
7. Evaluate the most effective means of communicating R&D
information and deliver this information using the identified
approach.
8. Contribute to the development of a research and development
strategy for the organization.
9. Control and monitor the R&D budget to ensure that money is
spent effectively and within prescribed limits.
10. Investigate various sources of funding and opportunities for
collaboration to ensure the most effective service to the company.
