A. Administrative
• Develops, implements, and monitors ambulatory care nursing practice in accordance with regulation and delineated scope of practice.
• Collaborate with the other leaders at UHCM centre to ensure the provision of safe, high quality, cost effective client care.
• Develops, maintains, reviews, implements and updates UHMC’s policies and procedures and standards of care for all areas of responsibility.
• Monitor nursing compliance with standards and requirements through rounds, interviews, and record reviews.
• Coordinate all services and laundry, ambulance, centre transport, oxygen delivery system, vacuum pump, pressure tank, hot water supply, medical supplies, biomed services, and all other services utilized through the system.
• Directs, supervises and evaluates the activities of assigned nursing unite/clinics.
• Performs rounds to observe care and interview staff, families or other interested parties to ensure quality client care.
• Ensures hospital equipment remains in safe operating condition.
• Involved with the purchase and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
B. Quality Improvement and Evaluation
• To be an active member of the UHMC quality and safety steering committee.
• Assist with planning, implementing and maintaining the quality assurance program which include but not limited to:
Develop, coordinates, participates and implement quality improvement plans (QIP) for nursing services and for the centre.
Ensure that all nurse sensitive indicators consistently outperform appropriate external benchmarks.
Maintain records, reports and logs to meet accrediting requirements.
Collaborate with UHMC leadership in the planning and implementation of the centre’s emergency preparedness plan.
• Promotes customer service, responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns from clients or families about nursing service.
• Assures compliance with infection control guidelines.
• Investigates and evaluates reports of unusual occurrence, takes timely and appropriate action including Completion of necessary documentation, and notifies the concerned staff.
• Assures the staff is trained in fire and disaster and other emergency procedures, and evaluates performance during drills.
C. Staffing
• Prepares work schedules, vacations, and sick leave for nursing staff in coordination with medical director.
• Facilitates appropriate staff coverage on assigned units/clinics.
D. Staff Development and Education
• Identifies the training/educational needs and skill gaps of staff personal.
• Participates in establishing and conducting in- service education and training.
• Coordinate and Participates in orienting new employees and new nurse graduates.
• Conduct performance appraisals of all nursing personnel on an ongoing basis in accordance with applicable performance standards.
• Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel assures sufficient staff is hired.
• Ensures performance of nursing practice remains in line with the facility, and Ministry of Health (MOH) policies, procedures and standards.
• Conduct incidental teaching in the clinic.
E. Clinical
• Provide direction, coordination and evaluation of patient care.
• Provide patient education and assists with the development of patient education material.
• Ensure that all documentation completed is both accurate and legible.
• Participate indirectly in the delivery of client care in accordance with centre policy.
