JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision and guidance of a senior medical staff (ED consultant or registrar), he/she can provide a high standard of clinical care in emergency medicine and promotes maintenance of clinical standards and quality of care to the patients attending the ED. He/She will defer to the senior medical staff in all matters requiring changes in planned clinical care, admission/discharge or transfer of the patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Duties
A- Responsible for the clinical care of patients attending the Emergency Department under the supervision of senior medical staff including:
- Attending of patient in order of medical urgency.
- Investigate appropriately.
- Manages emergency medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards and within capabilities.
- Collaborates with other senior staff as required and emergency department nursing staff to facilitate patient management.
- Communicates with family outside medical practitioners and/or community services.
B- Participates in monitoring and evaluating the medical care, documentation and resource management within the ED.
C- Documents clinical notes on each episode of patient care at the time of discharge from the ED to meet medical record standard.
D- Manages patients and documents with regard to risk management principles.
E- Ensures that the Consultants are informed of:
- The needs for service improvements/developments
- Any case where medical care may be compromised through lack of resources.
- Any case where the patient care outcome is outside of the normal range.
- Any incident that may compromise the patient’s health and recovery
- Potential medico-legal issues (patient or staff)
F- Participates in after hours and weekend rosters
G- Carry pager while on duty if needed.
H- Be easily contactable and able to return promptly to hospital when on call.
I- Assist in providing cover for unexpected absence.
J- Maintains and updates professional knowledge.
K-Participates in Continuous Medical Educational Activities.
I- Participates in in-service training programs.
M- Maintains Disaster Call schedule.
Administrative Duties:
A- Ensures that the rules and regulation of KSMC are known and followed.
B- Ensures that the agreed policy and procedures of KSM are known and followed.
C- Ensures that the Quality management plan in the Ed are known and followed.
D- Participates with data collection and quality assurance programs activities.
E- Liaises with external agencies such as family and community services, police, etc. (as requested by the ED Head)
F- Participates in special projects such as disaster planning, clinical pathway design, etc. (as directed by the ED Head)
G- Prepares medical reports in liaison with senior medical staff.
H- Participates in performance management activities.
I - Implements and updates emergency databases.
J- Attends departmental quality improvement meetings as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
Graduation form accredited school of medicine with an MBBS Degree (Saudi College of Medicine or equivalent)
with high GPA
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Required
- Current and valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty.
- Registered in the Saudi Medical Council and/ or current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- BLS course
