The Chief Accountant is responsible for:
· the efficient and effective functioning of the day-to-day financial and accounting operations;
· ensuring the up to date and accurate maintenance of the financial books and records of the school;
· maintaining a chart of accounts for the accounting system in conformance with the Group chart of accounts;
· Responsible for the preparation of Financial budgets and forecasts
· developing a culture of control for all financial transactions and ensuring that transactions are approved within designated limits
· preparing and issuing accurate reports (e.g. Balance sheet, Profit and Loss statement, Trial Balance, cash flows, etc.) as defined by the Group Finance Team
· Ensure monthly financial reports are ready for presentation to Group within 10 days of the next month, with analysis of Budget v/s actual variances.
· Monitor and identify areas of efficiency improvement with an objective of cost reduction.
· ensuring best practise accounting is carried out
· liaising with and maintaining relationships with the schools bankers
· Monitoring daily cash position to ensure timely payments of financial obligations,
· supervision of the reconciliation plan and follow-up on its execution
· supervising and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; assign work and train staff as needed.
· ensuring compliance with accounting policies, approved procedures, control framework and local financial regulations and laws (e.g. Zakat, etc.)
· reviewing accounts payables, cheque payments and controlling the petty cash controls
· assisting and liaising with the external auditors to complete the annual audit
· preparing financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position
· working closely with the Group Finance Function.
