Due to growth we have a requirement for an experienced Female Head of / Manager of Academic Services.
ROLE OBJECTIVE:
Working in close co-operation with Head, Academic Development & Quality, the Head of Learning and Teaching is responsible for the overall quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning across the College in order to develop in students the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to secure good quality employment. Responsible for driving improvements in performance of curriculum managers and teachers, improving pedagogy, quality, and the student experience. Responsible for ensuring that learning is focused and takes account of individual needs and addresses those needs in the design, development and delivery of learning programmes. Ensures that learning is progressive and effective - where the learner, regardless of ability, is treated equally and can see and feel that he (she) is progressing and is set challenging but achievable targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within the post-holder's area of responsibility, ensure that the College's strategic and operational targets are achieved.
Within the post-holder's area of responsibility, ensure that staff development and career review processes are implemented effectively and efficiently.
Assess the quality of teaching, identify weaknesses and act as mentor and adviser to course teams and individuals to extend and improve their pedagogical range and effectiveness.
Drive the quality framework, rigorously applying the quality principles.
Working in close co-operation with Head, Academic Development and Quality, achieve goals within academic development and quality.
Line management of Curriculum Managers.
Support the HR function to ensure that the right number of appropriately qualified, trained and experienced teachers are in the right place at the right time.
Ensure that teachers have the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to fulfil their role; support teachers' professional development and sharing of best practice by identifying training needs and ensuring the design and delivery of CPD.
Ensure that all teaching is challenging and inspirational - where the learner is presented with learning experiences and activities which challenge and inspire him to achieve beyond his own levels of expectation.
Ensure that teaching supports and contributes to the goal of preparing the student to enter the world of work.
Opportunities for learners to grow and develop their confidence; maintain pace - constantly evolving and challenging activities.
Design, organize and deliver induction, user education and information literacy sessions for students and staff.
Develop and disseminate best practice that enhances the student experience by encouraging retention, progress and achievement.
Be prepared to teach as necessary and appropriate.
