Job Summary:
Provide total patient care in compliance with the standards of nursing practice.
Provide care for patients with life-threatening medical conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess the patient's critical condition and should be ready to any emergencies, like CPR, DC Shock, vitalization & intubation.
- Provide assistance to the doctor or other medical personnel in the assessment of patients and delivery of treatments.
- Monitor life support equipment, administer IVs, give medication, and observe the patient’s vital signs and reactions to medical procedures.
- Maintenance of physical, social and spiritual needs of the patient.
- Maintaining the drugs and supplies as per standing orders.
- Maintaining equipments in working condition.
- Draw blood for testing purposes and manage blood and other fluid infusions as and when necessary.
- Responsible to ensure that emergencies are managed properly and concerned doctors are called in when necessary.
- Because the patients of an ICU face life-threatening conditions, the ICU staff nurse acts as an advocate for each patient, ensuring that the rest of the ICU staff respect each patient's rights and wishes.
- Required to educate the patient’s families/visitors regarding ICU procedures.
- Maintaining the reports and records of the patients up to date and report directly to the Unit Head Nurse.
- Participates and attends all meetings and conferences for the hospital programs and developmental project.
- Plans and ensure implementation of patient education programs.
- Follow infection control guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Attends Internal and External Disaster drill.
- Attends Fire and Safety activities.
- Attends the Nursing Education Program whether it is scheduled or not (minimum 80% attendance yearly is obligatory).
